Sixty-two drug peddlers arrested in 30 NDPS cases in Handwara, informs SSP Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary

Srinagar: The Handwara police, under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, has intensified its crackdown on drug peddlers in the region, registering 30 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act during the year 2024. A total of 62 drug peddlers have been identified, with 61 of them already arrested.

According to the SSP, 16 out of the 30 registered cases have been challaned in court, involving 41 accused individuals. In the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, significant quantities of contraband have been seized. The recoveries include: Charas: 1.710 kg, Heroin: 454.75 grams, Brown Sugar: 465 grams and Cannabis (Crushed): 320 grams.

Additionally, law enforcement confiscated six vehicles, Rs 1,050 in cash, and one digital weighing machine used in drug-related activities.

To curb the financial aspects of drug trafficking, authorities attached and seized properties linked to drug peddlers. These include: A mini complex comprising four shops valued at Rs 10,50,831, 01 Kanal and 08 Marlas of land worth Rs 11,20,000 and a Chevrolet Tavera vehicle valued at Rs 8,90,000.

Further, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 11 drug peddlers were detained this year.

The SSP emphasized that these measures are part of a broader campaign to eliminate the drug menace from society and assured the public of continued vigilance and strict action against those involved in such unlawful activities.
