Srinagar: The 26 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully concluded a cricket tournament under its Civic Action Programme, aimed at fostering sportsmanship and strengthening community bonds among local youth in Handwara.
The tournament, which featured three local teams from the Handwara region, culminated with an intense final match held on Tuesday. The event was inaugurated by S.F.P. Vaiphei, Officiating Commandant (2IC), alongside senior officers Vijay Singh Ghamoria (2IC, Operations/Administration), Jaipal Bishnoi (Deputy Commandant/Adjutant), Raju Barahadiya (Deputy Commandant), Sushil Kumar (Deputy Commandant), and Dr. Sumit (ACMO, 26 Battalion BSF).
The final showdown between Ibrahim Cricket Club, Gonipora, Handwara, and Star Eleven Cricket Club, Melyal, Kupwara, witnessed a thrilling contest. Star Eleven Cricket Club emerged victorious, clinching the tournament title.
During the prize distribution ceremony, S.F.P. Vaiphei and Vijay Singh Ghamoria presented trophies and cricket kits to the participating teams. The initiative was widely appreciated for encouraging youth engagement in sports and fostering a spirit of camaraderie.
Local residents expressed their gratitude to the BSF for organizing the event, emphasizing its positive impact on youth development and the promotion of community harmony.
The tournament stands as a testament to the BSF’s commitment to building strong relationships with the local population through constructive and inclusive initiatives.
