Reader Charter

TheNews21

At TheNews21, journalism is a public service.
This Reader Charter defines what our readers can expect from us — and what we expect from ourselves.

It is a commitment, not a slogan.

Our Commitment to Readers

1. Truth Above All

We commit to reporting that is fact-based, evidence-driven, and verified to the best of our ability. Accuracy is non-negotiable. Where facts are disputed, we clearly state what is known, what is alleged, and what remains unverified.

2. Public Interest First

Every editorial decision is guided by one question:
Does this serve the public interest?

We prioritise stories that:

  • hold power accountable,
  • expose misuse of public resources,
  • explain policy and governance,
  • protect democratic and constitutional values.

3. Independence & Integrity

TheNews21 is editorially independent.

We do not:

  • accept political funding,
  • publish paid news,
  • allow advertisers, governments, or vested interests to influence coverage.

Our journalism is supported by readers — not power.

4. Transparency & Accountability

We are accountable to our readers.

  • We clearly distinguish between news, analysis, and opinion.
  • We disclose conflicts of interest where relevant.
  • We correct errors promptly and transparently.

If we get something wrong, we acknowledge it.

5. Right to Reply & Fairness

Individuals and institutions named in critical or investigative reports are offered a reasonable opportunity to respond, wherever practicable.

We publish responses fairly, without distortion, and with due context.

6. Responsible Journalism

We avoid:

  • sensationalism,
  • misinformation,
  • hate speech,
  • content that incites violence or discrimination.

We report with restraint, especially on matters involving:

  • communal sensitivity,
  • national security,
  • children and vulnerable groups.

7. Protection of Sources

We respect and protect the confidentiality of sources, particularly whistleblowers, except where disclosure is required by law.

Source protection is essential to public-interest journalism.

8. Respect for Readers

We respect our readers’ intelligence and time.

  • No clickbait.
  • No manufactured outrage.
  • No misleading headlines.

Our aim is clarity, context, and depth.

What We Expect from Readers

We welcome engagement, disagreement, and criticism — but ask for:

  • civil and respectful dialogue,
  • fact-based criticism,
  • avoidance of abuse, threats, or misinformation.

Reader comments and interactions may be moderated to maintain a healthy public discourse.
