Fresh voting will take place at select polling booths in West Bengal after authorities flagged irregularities during the recent Assembly elections. The decision, taken by the Election Commission of India, affects a total of 15 booths spread across two constituencies—Magrahat Paschim and Diamond Harbour.
Officials said re-polling will be conducted at 11 stations in Magrahat Paschim and four in Diamond Harbour, following detailed reports submitted by Returning Officers and election observers after the April 29, 2026 voting. Based on these findings, the Commission concluded that the polling process at these locations did not meet required standards.
Invoking powers under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the earlier votes recorded at the identified booths have been cancelled. The directive, issued through the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, makes it clear that fresh polling will replace the invalidated votes.
The re-poll is scheduled for May 2, 2026, and will be conducted within fixed hours at the designated stations. Election authorities say the step is aimed at maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and addressing concerns raised during the initial round of voting.
