Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday appealed for calm and reconciliation after abusive remarks directed at him during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest over alleged irregularities in the NEET (UG) examination. In a video message shared on his social media platforms, the Prime Minister said that abusive language cannot resolve differences and urged society to guide young people instead of isolating them.
Responding to the controversy, PM Modi said that while offensive remarks had been made against both him and his late mother, he believed that young people should be given an opportunity to learn from their mistakes. “Punishing them, dragging them through court proceedings, and harassing them in society, none of this will change the situation. I want to forgive them. Society, too, should accept this. I hold only one sentiment in my heart,” he said.
‘These Children Are Ours Too’
Drawing an analogy to emphasise the need for compassion, the Prime Minister said disagreements should not lead to hatred within society. “Sometimes, our tongue gets caught between our teeth and bleeds, yet we do not break our teeth; after all, both the teeth and the tongue belong to us. These children are ours, too. It is our duty to show them the right path,” he said.
He added that rather than allowing divisions to deepen, people should come together to help those who may have lost their way and work collectively for the country’s future.
Appeal to Youth to Learn From Mistakes
Addressing the country’s youth, PM Modi said India was moving steadily towards greater progress and expressed hope that young citizens would also move ahead by learning from their experiences. “The country is moving forward and is poised for further progress, and it is my dream that you, too, move forward. I live for you; I dedicate myself to your bright future. Come, let us move the country forward together. Learn from mistakes, and move forward,” he said.
Video Follows Viral Social Media Controversy
The Prime Minister’s remarks came after a video circulating on social media showed a woman from Noida allegedly using abusive language against him during the protests linked to the NEET issue. The woman was identified as Ruchika Singh, a resident of Sector 168, Noida.
Following the incident, the Uttar Pradesh Police registered a Zero FIR at the Expressway Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to intentional insult, statements allegedly capable of disturbing public order and defamation. The matter has since been forwarded to the Delhi Police, which is expected to examine the contents of the FIR as part of its investigation.
While legal proceedings are underway, the Prime Minister’s message focused on reconciliation, urging people to choose dialogue, guidance and forgiveness over confrontation.
