The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, extending the exercise and postponing the publication of the final electoral roll to October 19, 2026. The Commission said the decision was taken after the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana sought additional time to complete the voter verification process.
The EC has also confirmed that October 1, 2026, will be treated as the qualifying date for the ongoing revision.
House-to-House Verification Extended Till August 10
Under the revised schedule issued by ECI Secretary Pawan Diwan, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will continue their house-to-house verification drive and polling station rationalisation exercise until August 10.
The extension is intended to ensure that voter details are verified comprehensively before the preparation of the updated electoral rolls.
Draft Electoral Roll on August 17
According to the revised programme, the draft electoral roll for Telangana will now be published on August 17, 2026.
Voters will be allowed to submit claims and objections from August 17 to September 16, providing a month-long opportunity to seek corrections, additions or deletions in the electoral rolls.
The Election Commission said the process of examining and disposing of claims and objections will continue until October 15, after which the final electoral roll will be released on October 19, 2026.
The Commission has also instructed election authorities to widely publicise the revised schedule across various media platforms and formally communicate the changes to all recognised political parties.
Andhra Pradesh Releases Draft Electoral Rolls
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has published the draft electoral rolls for Andhra Pradesh after completing the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision.
According to data released by the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, 3.71 crore voters submitted their Enumeration Forms during the exercise conducted between June 15 and July 24, accounting for 89.22 per cent of the state’s total electorate. Officials also identified 15.22 lakh deceased voters during the verification process.
Odisha Gets More Time for Claims and Objections
The Election Commission has also extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under the Special Intensive Revision in Odisha.
Responding to a request from the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, the Commission has pushed the last date from August 4 to August 19, 2026. The revision exercise in Odisha is being conducted with July 1, 2026, as the qualifying date.
The revised timelines are expected to provide voters with additional time to verify their electoral details and ensure greater accuracy in the voter lists before their final publication.
