Row erupts over viral Assembly moments
A massive political storm has erupted in Punjab after AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal made sensational allegations against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, questioning his conduct in public office. The controversy gained momentum after a video from the Punjab Vidhan Sabha surfaced, showing Mann in heated exchanges with Opposition leaders.
“Constantly under the influence” remark triggers outrage
In a sharp and strongly worded statement, Maliwal accused the Chief Minister of habitual intoxication. She said a leader “constantly under the influence” cannot govern a sensitive border state like Punjab and called for an alcohol test, intensifying the political row.
Assembly turns battleground
The allegations coincided with chaotic scenes inside the Assembly. During a debate, Mann lashed out at Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa over criticism of previous sessions, with his aggressive tone drawing sharp reactions from the Opposition benches.
Confrontation escalates inside House
The situation worsened when Mann targeted Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira over phone usage, sparking protests and sloganeering. Members stormed the well of the House as tensions spiralled out of control.
Demand for alcohol test fuels chaos
The flashpoint came when Bajwa demanded a breathalyser test for all MLAs, leading to unprecedented uproar. Congress legislators staged a walkout after shouting slogans, turning the session into one of the most turbulent in recent times.
Fallout deepens political divide
While Mann later attempted to ease tensions by offering more time to the Opposition, the damage had already been done. The controversy has now widened into a full-blown political confrontation, with allegations and counter-allegations dominating Punjab’s political landscape.
