Srinagar: The mega event of the Green Birds Championship (GBC) Cricket Tournament was played at the sports ground of the Tirch area of Handwara.
This brand event was organized by the most famous youth icon and social worker Zubair Ahmad Bhat in collaboration with young and energetic faces of this area.
The final match spectators witnessed quality cricket on display, but ultimately it was Royal Reds Jaggerpora that emerged as winners against the Police Eleven of Kupwara.
The Royal Reds, Jaggerpora set a target 182 runs before the Police Eleven, Kupwara in the match which the Royal Reds Jaggerpora won by 7 runs.
The event was attended by many top officials including, Chief Guest Commanding officer of the 47 RR, Amit Kumar Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Kupwara, Abdul Rashid Khan, SHO Kupwara Mohammad Rafiq Lone and other senior citizens of North Kashmir. The 47 RR also participated as well wishers of Kashmir-e Youth.
Commanding officer 47 RR while speaking on the occasion, said that many more such tournaments in other sport disciplines will be conducted in the future. He added that the tournament saw huge talent among players hailing from rural areas and this tournament will help them to improve their skills.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kupwara Rashid Khan while speaking on the occasion said that we have talented youth in the area in each and every field. Need of the hour is to showcase their talent on better platforms by providing opportunities to them.
SHO Kupwara Mohammad Rafiq Lone in his speech said that the aim of holding the sporting event was to motivate and encourage the youth of the valley to play and consider sports as a career path. Chief organizer of the sports event Zubair Ahmad Bhat and other citizens highlighted many problems regarding sports grounds.
All the arrangements for guests, players and media were excellent. Later on, the guests of the function, commanding officer 47 RR, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdul Rashid Khan, SHO Kupwara Mohammad Rafeeq Lone and other guests gave away the prizes to the players.
The winners were awarded with a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 15,000, and the runners-up were awarded with a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 10,000. The local people praised the efforts in organising this tournament.
