A political and family controversy has erupted in Uttar Pradesh after BJP MLA Gyan Tiwari publicly distanced himself from the family of his son-in-law following allegations that his samdhi, Anuj Trivedi, deceived multiple women through fraudulent marriages across different states.
Addressing the issue during a Facebook Live session alongside his daughter, Dr Pragya Tiwari, the Seuta legislator said the revelations had left his family shocked and betrayed. He maintained that he no longer wished to have any association with the accused family and called for a thorough investigation into the allegations.
According to information available so far, Anuj Trivedi, a resident of Misrikh in Sitapur district, is currently lodged in jail in connection with a case registered in Mumbai. Investigators are examining complaints from several women who have alleged that they were misled into marriages under false identities and promises over a span of several years.
Tiwari said his daughter’s marriage to Prakhar Trivedi was arranged in 2024 after the family received favourable references from respected individuals and was informed that they were engaged in the real estate business. He claimed that no information regarding any criminal allegations or legal disputes involving the family was disclosed before the marriage.
The BJP MLA said subsequent developments revealed multiple cases linked to Anuj Trivedi, prompting his family to sever ties with the accused. He also stated that allegations had surfaced against his son-in-law as well, though the matter remains under investigation and no official findings have been announced.
Expressing support for his daughter, Tiwari said she is an independent medical professional and assured that the family would stand by her in every legal and personal decision. He added that if she chooses to pursue legal proceedings, she would receive his full support.
Meanwhile, authorities are continuing to investigate the allegations against Anuj Trivedi. Reports indicate that several women have approached officials seeking an inquiry into his financial assets, business dealings and the alleged network through which the marriages were arranged.
The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement agencies are expected to examine additional complaints as the case unfolds.
