The Congress has issued a three-line whip to all its Members of Parliament in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, directing them to remain present in the House from August 10 to August 12 as Parliament prepares to take up several politically significant matters during the ongoing Monsoon Session.
The party has informed its MPs that important legislative and parliamentary business is expected over the three-day period, making full attendance mandatory. Similar instructions have also been conveyed to parties within the INDIA bloc to ensure coordinated participation during the discussions.
Focus Shifts to Key Bills
The directive comes amid growing political activity over a series of major legislative proposals expected to dominate Parliament next week. While the official list of government business has not confirmed every proposal under discussion, political circles are closely watching developments surrounding the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) framework and the constitutional changes linked to delimitation and women’s reservation.
The Centre has so far not formally included these Bills in its tentative legislative agenda, but discussions surrounding them have intensified.
Government Steps Up Outreach to Opposition
Parallel to the legislative preparations, the government has continued efforts to build consensus with opposition parties on pending constitutional reforms. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has reportedly held discussions with senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as part of attempts to ensure smoother functioning of Parliament.
The outreach is also aimed at reducing the deadlock that has affected proceedings during the current session.
Congress Seeks Wider Consultation
According to political sources, Rahul Gandhi has maintained that any major constitutional amendment should be preceded by wider consultations. The Congress has reportedly insisted that an all-party meeting be convened before extending its support to any proposal related to delimitation or women’s reservation.
The party is also expected to coordinate its position with other INDIA bloc constituents before taking a final stand on the proposed legislation.
