Kupwara: Handwara witnessed a festive atmosphere on Friday as supporters of the National Conference (NC) gathered at Main Chowk to celebrate the election of senior party leader Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan to the Rajya Sabha. The celebrations followed the formal announcement of results for the four Upper House seats from Jammu and Kashmir.
Organized under the banner of “Jashn-e-Handwara,” the event saw locals and party workers transform the marketplace into a hub of jubilation. Sweets were distributed widely, party flags were waved enthusiastically, and slogans praising Ramzan echoed through the town.
Local NC activists described the victory as a historic moment for the region, highlighting Ramzan’s long-standing service as a legislator and minister. Many emphasized that his elevation to the Rajya Sabha reflects his consistent grassroots connect and credibility.
“Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan Sahib has always been a strong advocate for Handwara and Kupwara. His representation in the Rajya Sabha will ensure that our developmental concerns are heard at the national level,” said a party worker participating in the celebrations.
Residents attending the gathering echoed similar sentiments, noting that Handwara has experienced stagnation in infrastructure and public services over the years. They expressed hope that Ramzan’s presence in New Delhi will accelerate development, attract investment, and bring renewed policy focus to the region.
Supporters referred to him as the “voice of Handwara” and “architect of development,” recalling key civic initiatives undertaken during his earlier tenures. They said the town eagerly awaits the benefits of his active political representation at the national stage.
The celebrations continued into the late evening, briefly affecting traffic movement in parts of the town due to the large crowd. The event reflected the deep-rooted support for Ramzan and the NC in Handwara and Kupwara, marking a joyous milestone for both the party and local residents.
