Navi Mumbai: Pakistan’s journey ends not with a victory lap, but with a downpour as the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 comes to an end. Their last group match against Sri Lanka in Colombo was canceled because of heavy rain. This was a fitting, if sad, end to a campaign that was full of promise, hard work, and missed opportunities.
Pakistan’s story is like an unfinished symphony, with parts that are beautiful and melodic but never quite come together.

A Tournament of Missed Beats
Pakistan started their World Cup campaign with quiet confidence. Their team was made up of young players with a mix of energy and experience, all led by a strong leadership group. But as the tournament went on, inconsistency became their biggest enemy. They showed flashes of quality, like disciplined bowling, calm knocks, and electric fielding. But those highs didn’t last long enough. Batting collapses happened when partnerships looked like they were going to work out, and the bowlers had a hard time keeping up the pressure even after getting early breakthroughs.
The fact that they lost to South Africa by 150 runs showed the same problems that had been there throughout the tournament. Pakistan’s bowlers started off well, but the batters fell apart when the score got too high. The team stayed near the bottom of the points table after six matches, not because they didn’t fight, but because they didn’t finish.

Brilliant Flashes
Even though they were disappointed, some players gave Pakistan hope for the future. Sidra Ameen was still the most reliable batter on the team. She was calm, collected, and often the only one in the top order who could keep things steady. Nida Dar, the captain, led with her heart, balancing her roles as a motivator and an all around player, even when runs were hard to come by. Fatima Sana and Aliya Riaz were two young players who brought energy and hints of match winning potential.
Pakistan’s fielding, which used to be a weak point, got a lot better, even though they lost a lot of games at important times. There were good parts in each game, like a fighting spell here and a tough partnership there, but there was never a full performance that turned effort into victory.

The Rain That Brought It All to an End
The last game against Sri Lanka was Pakistan’s last chance to make things right and end the campaign with pride. But nature had other ideas. The rain started early and never really stopped. By the afternoon, the outfield at Premadasa Stadium was soaked, and officials had no choice but to call off the game. It was a quiet end for Pakistan.
There was no bat raised, no ball bowled, just the steady sound of rain marking the end of another World Cup story. It was painfully symbolic for a team looking for rhythm. A campaign that ended not with applause, but with the quiet sound of unfinished notes.

A Bigger Question Pakistan’s journey brings up questions that are not new, but they are about the infrastructure that supports women’s cricket in the country. To be consistent, there needs to be continuity. This means stronger domestic structures, more resources for coaching, and regular exposure to top level competition. Pakistan’s women will keep going back and forth between being great and being sad until those foundations get stronger.
A Song That Isn’t Done Yet
Pakistan didn’t do as well in this World Cup as they had hoped, but they learned things that could shape their future. The team has the skill, the drive, and most importantly, the will. They need to find a balance between being aggressive and patient, being free and focused, and having experience and trying new things. Pakistan’s campaign in 2025 ends mid note, like a song that gets cut short by rain. It’s not over yet, but it has promise. And maybe, in the coming seasons, they’ll find the rhythm that brings all these pieces of brilliance together into a beautiful song.
