Four drug peddlers arrested; 315 grams Heroin recovered

Srinagar: In its continuous efforts to tighten the noose around drug peddlers in Kupwara district, police team of Police Station Sogam in two separate cases have arrested four persons and recovered 315 grams of heroin like narcotics substance from them.

In the first case Javid Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir resident of Darpora and Arshid Ahmad Bhat son of Fayaz Ahmad Bhat of Badibera Lolab were arrested during routine market checking from Sogam market when the duo was looking for customers to sell the narcotics. Sensing police presence, both were trying to conceal the consignment but were apprehended before they could succeed in their nefarious design. 

In the second case, two notorious drug peddlers of Sopore area were arrested along with heroin-like narcotics from Wavoora market of Police Station Sogam when both had come to sell the narcotics there. 

Identified as Hilal Ahmad Malla, son of Mohammad Maqbool Malla a resident of Malmapanpora Sopore and Mudasir Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Rashid Sofi of Botingo Sopore, both were arrested during a naka-checking at Wavoora Market, Sogam when the duo was found lurking around with a polythene bag in suspicious condition, and had tried to flee from the spot upon seeing the naka-party. Upon search of the polythene bag, a heroin-like narcotics substance was recovered.  

Two separate FIRs 21/2023 and 22/2023 under relevant sections of NDPS Act have been registered in Police Station Sogam and investigation set into motion. Recoveries and arrests in both the cases were made by a police team of Police Station Sogam led by its SHO Dy. SP (Prob) Khadim Hussain under the supervision of Dy. SP Sarfaraz Bashir SDPO Lolab. 

General public of the area has hailed the efforts of Kupwara Police in its war against drugs, and exhibited their willingness and grit determination to support police in order to eradicate the drug-menace.
