PM Modi’s Gen Z Message: ‘A Shortcut Will Cut You Short’, Warns Youth Against Chasing Instant Success

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged India’s young generation to stay away from shortcuts and carefully choose the people and ideas they follow in an age dominated by social media, influencers and instant content.

Speaking at the launch of former President Ram Nath Kovind’s autobiography Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles in Delhi on Wednesday, Modi used the example of people crossing railway tracks instead of taking footbridges to explain how the desire for quick results can sometimes lead people in the wrong direction.

Referring to the warning commonly displayed near railway crossings, the Prime Minister said, “A shortcut will cut you short.”

PM Modi Warns Gen Z Against Social Media Influences

Modi linked the railway warning to the choices young people make in their personal and professional lives. He cautioned youngsters against blindly following online personalities who may push them towards different paths without considering the long-term consequences.

He also encouraged young people to read the autobiographies of individuals they admire and learn from their experiences.

“If you do wish to find a way forward, I would tell the youth: definitely read the autobiography of whoever you admire,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a time when social media has become a major source of information, entertainment and inspiration for India’s younger population.

From Railway Crossings To Reels, Modi’s Message To Young Indians

The railway-track analogy reflected a broader message about patience and long-term thinking. While shortcuts may appear attractive because they save time, Modi’s warning was that quick routes do not necessarily lead to meaningful or sustainable success.

His comments also come amid increasing political and government efforts to connect with younger Indians through digital platforms and short-form content.

Modi’s Growing Outreach To Gen Z

In recent months, Modi has increasingly used social media formats and language aimed at younger audiences. His online communication has included more informal videos and direct messaging, reflecting the growing importance of digital platforms in reaching Gen Z.

The government and BJP have also increased their presence on platforms popular with young users, with ministers and departments using short videos and social media campaigns to communicate with the public.

The Prime Minister’s latest message, however, focused less on social media itself and more on how young people respond to the information and influences they encounter online.

For Modi, the central message was simple: quick results should not come at the cost of the right direction.
