New Delhi: In a dramatic turn of events, Delhi Speaker Vijender Gupta on Tuesday suspended 12 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, including Leader of Opposition Atishi and senior leader Gopal Rai, from the assembly for the day. The suspension came after the legislators raised slogans during Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s address, triggering a heated showdown between AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The suspended MLAs also include Veer Singh Dhingan, Mukesh Ahlawat, Chaudhary Zubair Ahmed, Anil Jha, Vishesh Ravi, and Jarnail Singh. The uproar was fueled by AAP’s allegations against the BJP-led administration for allegedly removing portraits of Dr. BR Ambedkar from key government offices.

AAP-BJP Faceoff Over Ambedkar Portraits

Addressing the media outside the assembly, Atishi accused the BJP of disrespecting the architect of the Indian Constitution by replacing his portraits in the chief minister’s office with those of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The BJP has shown its true colors by removing Babasaheb Ambedkar’s portrait. Does it believe Modi can replace Babasaheb?” Atishi questioned.

She further claimed that Ambedkar’s portraits were taken down from both the Delhi Secretariat and the assembly premises.

“When AAP MLAs raised slogans in support of Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, they were suspended. But when BJP MLAs raised slogans for PM Modi, no action was taken. This shows that BJP hates Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar,” she alleged.
