‘He Has Forgotten the Oath of the Khaki Uniform’: Vijay Wadettiwar Slams Vishwas Nangare Patil Over RSS Event

Congress MLA Questions Police Officer’s Presence at Religious Platform

Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar has criticised senior IPS officer Vishwas Nangare Patil over his reported participation in an RSS event, alleging that a serving police officer should not appear on a religious or communal platform while wearing the khaki uniform.

Speaking in Nagpur, Wadettiwar said, “It is inappropriate for him to attend an event organised by the Hindu Mahasabha or the Hindu community—or to appear on any communal platform—while wearing the khaki uniform. It seems he has forgotten the oath associated with that uniform.”

‘He Has Squandered the Trust of the Youth’

The Congress leader further alleged that Vishwas Nangare Patil had disappointed the many young people who viewed him as a role model.

“He has squandered the trust the youth placed in him; his statements make this evident. He voiced his opinions—specifically expressing communal views—on such a religious platform,” Wadettiwar said.

He maintained that police officers are expected to uphold neutrality and avoid actions that may raise questions about impartiality.

‘He Has Tarnished His Own Reputation’

Continuing his criticism, Wadettiwar accused the IPS officer of damaging the credibility he had built over the years.

“When a police officer shares a platform associated with a particular religion and makes such remarks—especially incorrect ones—it violates the core principles for which the police force is known. His views were not grounded in truth; by appearing on that platform, Vishwas Nangare Patil has completely lost the trust he had earned and has tarnished his reputation. He has personally compromised his own name and stature,” he said.

The remarks have intensified the political controversy surrounding Vishwas Nangare Patil’s reported appearance at the RSS event, with the issue expected to generate further debate in Maharashtra.
