‘Another Exam, Another Leak’: Maharashtra TET Postponed Over Suspected Paper Leak; Opposition Says Government Has Failed Students

Thousands of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) aspirants across Maharashtra were left shocked after the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) postponed the June 28 examination following a suspected question paper leak uncovered during a police operation in Bhiwandi. The development has once again triggered concerns over the security of competitive examinations in the state, with the opposition accusing the government of repeatedly failing to protect the future of students.

The Maharashtra TET 2026 examination was scheduled to be conducted at 1,028 centres across the state. According to an official statement issued by the Maharashtra State Council of Examination, extensive security arrangements had been made in view of controversies surrounding recent competitive examinations across the country.

However, on June 27, acting on confidential information, Bhiwandi Police carried out a raid at a location where officials allegedly recovered material containing questions matching the official TET examination paper. After immediate verification by officers from the examination council, authorities found that several questions were identical to those prepared for the examination. A case was subsequently registered at Bhiwandi Police Station.

In light of the suspected paper leak, the examination council decided to postpone the test, stating that it was committed to conducting the examination in a transparent and fair manner. The council said a thorough investigation would be completed before announcing a fresh examination date. Candidates have also been advised to ignore rumours circulating on social media and rely only on official updates released by MSCE.

The incident has quickly snowballed into a major political controversy, with the opposition launching a scathing attack on the Maharashtra government. Referring to previous controversies over examination leaks, opposition leaders alleged that paper leaks have become the identity of the present administration and claimed that students are losing faith in the examination system.

The opposition said that regardless of the examination, students now fear that question papers may be leaked before the test is conducted. They alleged that the repeated incidents amount to a betrayal of lakhs of hardworking candidates who spend months and years preparing for competitive examinations with hopes of securing government jobs.

Targeting the government, opposition leaders claimed the administration had failed to conduct even one major examination securely. They alleged that instead of protecting students’ interests, those in power were more concerned about political survival, while the future of lakhs of aspirants continued to remain uncertain.

Calling the postponement a glaring example of administrative failure, the opposition demanded immediate action against those responsible for the suspected leak. They also urged the government to permanently dismantle networks involved in paper leak rackets and ensure that future examinations are conducted without any compromise.

The opposition further alleged that the government had no moral right to remain in power if it could not guarantee free and fair examinations. They warned that young people would not forgive those responsible for repeatedly putting their careers and dreams at risk.

As investigators continue probing the suspected paper leak, thousands of candidates remain in limbo, awaiting a fresh examination date. The controversy has once again intensified the debate over examination security and accountability, with students demanding stronger safeguards to ensure that their hard work is not undermined by malpractice.
