Pattan: The Indian Army has started a two-week Basic Nursing Course for students of Government Degree College Pattan, an initiative that has received widespread appreciation from residents in north Kashmir’s Pattan area for helping students gain essential healthcare and emergency response skills.
The training programme is aimed at providing students with practical knowledge of first aid, golden-hour casualty management, and basic nursing techniques. Through hands-on sessions, students are learning how to respond during medical emergencies and support community healthcare activities effectively.
Officials associated with the programme said the initiative has been introduced to improve emergency preparedness and increase awareness about basic healthcare practices among students and faculty members. They added that the skills taught during the course could play an important role during real-life emergencies and public service activities.
The programme has seen strong participation from students, with many enthusiastically enrolling for the training sessions. Local residents have also welcomed the Army’s initiative, saying such programmes not only improve practical knowledge among youth but also encourage responsibility, discipline, and community service.
Many locals described the initiative as a meaningful step towards youth empowerment and praised the Indian Army for organising educational and skill-development programmes that directly benefit the community.
