Srinagar: Continuing its intensified campaign against the illegal sale and misuse of narcotic and psychotropic substances, Srinagar Police, in coordination with the Drug and Food Control Department, conducted a major inspection drive across the Zakoora-Hazratbal and Lal Bazar areas of Srinagar under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan and the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 100-day campaign.
During the inspections, several medical stores were found violating pharmaceutical regulations, including failure to maintain records of NRX drugs, absence of computerized billing systems, and violations related to the handling and sale of psychotropic substances.
In the Lal Bazar area, officials from Police Station Lal Bazar and the Drug Department sealed three medical establishments after detecting serious irregularities.
The sealed shops include Jan Aushadhi Centre at Botashah Mohalla Lal Bazar, operated by Zubair Ahmad Reshi of Handwara, for alleged violation of Jan Aushadhi norms; Mirza Medicate at Baghwanpora, owned by Mirza Nazir Ahmad, for failing to maintain sale and purchase records of narcotic and psychotropic medicines; and Qayoom Medicate at Baghwanpora Lal Bazar, owned by Mohammad Rafiq Sheikh, for similar violations.
A separate joint inspection was also carried out in the Zakoora-Hazratbal area, where multiple medical establishments were checked for compliance with drug control regulations.
Following the inspection, authorities sealed four more establishments — M.J Medicate Hazratbal, Crossing Healthcare Zakoora, Kamli Chemists Zakoora, and KMS Medical Store Habbak — after officials found serious violations linked to record maintenance, billing procedures, storage practices, and psychotropic substance handling protocols.
Police officials said the action reflects Srinagar Police’s continued commitment towards curbing drug abuse and ensuring strict implementation of laws governing narcotic and psychotropic substances.
Authorities added that further legal proceedings against the violators have been initiated under relevant laws.
Srinagar Police also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against drug abuse and urged citizens to report any illegal activities involving narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances to the nearest police station.
