Veteran Actor Pankaj Dheer, Iconic Karna of Mahabharat, Passes Away at 68 After Cancer Battle

Mumbai: The Indian entertainment industry mourns the loss of veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, renowned for his portrayal of Karna in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, who passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday at the age of 68 after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Reports indicate that Pankaj had been fighting the disease courageously, undergoing major surgery and treatment. Unfortunately, the cancer relapsed a few months ago, leaving him critically ill in his final days. His last rites are scheduled to take place in Vile Parle, Mumbai, today.

In an official statement, CINTAA (Cine & TV Artistes Association) said: “With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing away of our Trust’s erstwhile Chairman and CINTAA’s former Hon. General Secretary, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji, on 15th October 2025. The cremation will be held today at 4:30 p.m. next to Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai.”

Born on November 9, 1956, in Punjab, Pankaj Dheer began his acting career in the early 1980s and became a prominent figure in Indian television and cinema. His career spanned over four decades, leaving a lasting legacy through memorable performances.

Apart from Mahabharat, his notable roles included Raja Shivdutt in Chandrakanta (1994–1996), Sadashivrao Bhau in The Great Maratha, and Jamnalal Dwivedi in Sasural Simar Ka. On the big screen, he appeared in films such as Sadak, Baadshah, and Soldier.

Pankaj is survived by his wife Anita Dheer and their son Nikitin Dheer, who is also an actor and married to television actress Kratika Sengar. Nikitin often shared cherished moments with his father on social media, celebrating their bond and Pankaj’s contributions to the arts.
