In a poignant gesture that underscores the depth of his connection to the people of Pilibhit, BJP MP Varun Gandhi has penned an emotional letter to his constituents following his denial of a ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The letter, brimming with nostalgia and gratitude, reflects Gandhi’s profound bond with the region and its inhabitants, tracing back to his earliest memories of childhood.
Recalling the poignant journey that began when he first set foot in Pilibhit as a three-year-old in 1983, Varun Gandhi reminisced about the myriad experiences and cherished moments that have woven the fabric of his connection to the land and its people. In his heartfelt missive, Gandhi expressed gratitude for the privilege of serving the people of Pilibhit and underscored the profound impact they have had on his life’s trajectory.
“Today as I am writing this letter, countless memories have made me emotional,” Gandhi wrote. “I remember that 3-year-old little boy who came to Pilibhit for the first time in 1983 holding his mother’s finger, how did he know that one day this land would become his workplace and the people here would become his family.”
Amidst expressions of gratitude and nostalgia, Gandhi acknowledged the invaluable lessons in ideals, simplicity, and kindness that he had imbibed from the constituents of Pilibhit, shaping not only his role as a Member of Parliament but also his personal growth and evolution.
“Even though my tenure as an MP is coming to an end,” Gandhi wrote, “my relationship with Pilibhit cannot end till my last breath.”
Gandhi’s decision not to file his nomination papers in Pilibhit on the last day, dispelling speculations of a potential independent candidacy after being denied a BJP ticket, marks the end of an era in his political journey. However, his mother, Maneka Gandhi, the sitting MP from Sultanpur, was granted another opportunity by the BJP to contest from the same seat.
