‘Sukhbir Singh Badal Attacked Inside Gurdwara in Maharashtra’: Nihang Assaults Akali Dal Chief With Sharp Weapon, Detained

Shiromani Akali Dal chief and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked inside a gurdwara in Maharashtra’s Nanded on Thursday, with a Nihang allegedly using a sharp weapon believed to be a kirpan.

The incident occurred at around 11 am, shortly after Badal arrived in Nanded from Punjab. He was visiting the city for personal reasons and was travelling under the security arrangements made for him.

Badal sustained a minor injury to his right hand during the attack. He was subsequently taken to a private hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment at Yashosai Hospital. His condition is reported to be stable and he is out of danger.

A police officer accompanying Badal was also injured while attempting to intervene.

Inspector Santosh Kendre, who was part of Badal’s security team, suffered minor injuries during the incident as he tried to protect the Akali Dal leader from the attacker.

Attacker detained after incident

Police detained the alleged attacker shortly after the assault. Investigators are now questioning him to establish what led to the attack and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The assault took place within the gurdwara premises, shortly after Badal’s arrival.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, while security personnel are assessing how the attacker managed to approach Badal despite the security arrangements in place.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, the son of former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, is a prominent Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab.
