The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made significant changes to its candidate list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with the unveiling of its fifth list on Sunday. In a surprising move, the party opted to switch things up in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, by dropping Varun Gandhi from the electoral lineup.
Varun Gandhi, a prominent figure in Uttar Pradesh politics, was replaced by former Congress leader Jitin Prasada for the Pilibhit seat. Prasada, who joined the BJP in 2021, cited difficulties within the Congress, particularly in his hometown of Lakhimpur Khiri in Uttar Pradesh, as the reason for his departure. Despite his earlier closeness to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Prasada felt overlooked and sought new opportunities within the BJP.
