Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has criticised both the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress over the repeated disruptions in Parliament, alleging that political parties are diverting public attention from issues affecting ordinary citizens.
Speaking in Lucknow on Tuesday, Mayawati said the continuing protests and confrontations in Parliament were preventing important public concerns from receiving adequate attention. Her remarks came amid the ongoing political deadlock during the Monsoon Session and growing protests over student-related issues.
Mayawati Questions BJP-Congress Approach
Mayawati alleged that the repeated disruptions could either reflect an understanding between political groups or an attempt to avoid discussions on shortcomings in governance.“As is well known, for some time now, those in the ruling and Opposition camps, namely the BJP and Congress and company, are disrupting Parliament over one issue or another, diverting public attention from important issues of public interest.”
She further said that people were capable of understanding the political developments taking place around them.“This could either be an internal understanding between them to divert people’s attention from the shortcomings of their governments at the Center and in the states, or there could be a conspiracy behind it to avoid addressing these issues. The people of the country can clearly see what is going on.”
Her comments come as Parliament continues to witness competing protests by the government and Opposition over several issues, including student agitations.
‘Gen Z Is Deeply Distressed’: Mayawati
The BSP chief also turned her focus towards India’s younger generation, saying that Gen Z is facing serious concerns and that political parties should pay attention to their grievances.“Now, the country’s youth, that is Gen Z, are deeply distressed and concerned over their numerous problems.”
Mayawati said the BSP had consistently supported young people and linked their ongoing protests to concerns shared by students and their parents.“The BSP has always stood with them as part of its political approach and continues to stand with them. Their protest is connected to the students’ and their parents’ problems.”
The BSP chief also said her party was working towards finding solutions to the issues raised by young people.
Student Protests Become Major Political Flashpoint
Mayawati’s remarks come against the backdrop of growing student and youth protests, including the ongoing agitation in Ranchi over recruitment examination-related concerns. The issue has increasingly become a political battleground, with different parties attempting to position themselves as supporters of the protesting students.
Recent political reactions have also highlighted concerns over whether student movements are being drawn into wider party politics. Mayawati has argued that the focus should remain on the problems faced by students and their families rather than political competition.
BSP Says Youth Issues Must Not Be Sidelined
The BSP’s intervention comes at a time when youth concerns such as education, recruitment examinations and employment have gained greater political attention. Recent reporting has also highlighted growing dissatisfaction among young Indians over jobs and examination-related issues.
Mayawati’s latest statement therefore seeks to put the BSP on the side of the protesting youth while criticising both major political camps for what she described as distractions from public-interest issues.
