In a decisive blow to terrorism, all eight militants involved in an attack on Pakistan’s Gwadar port authority complex in the Balochistan province were successfully eliminated, announced Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti.

Bugti conveyed the triumph over terrorism through a post on social media platform X, stating, “Eight terrorists tried to attack the Gwadar Port Authority complex today. All of them have been neutralised by security forces. The message is loud & clear. Whosoever chooses to use violence will see no mercy from the state. Kudos to all law enforcement bravehearts who fought bravely today for Pakistan.”

According to reports from Geo News, the attack was preceded by a blast, marking the onset of the militants’ assault. Armed assailants breached the premises of Gwadar’s Port Authority Complex, initiating gunfire while causing several explosions in the vicinity.

In response to the threat, extensive deployments of police and security forces were mobilized to the scene, as confirmed by Makran Commissioner Saeed Ahmed Umrani to Dawn, a prominent Pakistani news organization.

The Express Tribune newspaper reported that the Majeed Brigade, linked to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), claimed responsibility for the assault, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the region.

This brazen attack occurred shortly after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s resolute declaration that his government would adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of cross-border terrorism, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to combating extremism.

The significance of Gwadar port cannot be understated, particularly within the context of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which encompasses monumental infrastructure projects and is an integral component of China President Xi Jinping’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The successful defense of Gwadar underscores the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region, vital for the progress and prosperity envisioned through these transformative initiatives.
