Israel Kills 16 in South Lebanon Strikes, Raising Fears of Collapse of US–Iran Peace Deal

Heavy Overnight Strikes Hit Southern Lebanon

At least 16 people were killed in Israeli air and artillery strikes across southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA). The bombardment hit multiple locations in the Nabatieh district during the night, causing widespread destruction in residential zones and escalating tensions in the region.

Emergency teams reported several injuries, while search operations continued for people believed to be trapped under rubble.

Nabatieh District Sees Severe Damage

The most intense strikes were reported in Nabatieh city and surrounding towns including Kfar Jouz, Kfar Reman, and Zebdine. Additional air raids later struck Kfar Tibnit and the Rayhan heights.

According to NNA, eight people were killed in Nabatieh and Harouf, while four others died after a house between Al-Sharqiya and Doueir was hit. Three more fatalities were reported in Kfar Sir following separate strikes.

A drone attack near the Doueir municipality building, which targeted a motorcycle, killed one person and injured another.

Residential Areas Hit Amid Night Raids

Local reports described heavy damage to civilian neighbourhoods, with several homes destroyed or severely damaged. Rescue workers were deployed overnight as authorities warned that more victims could still be buried under debris.

Strikes Come Hours After US–Iran Peace Framework

The attacks took place less than 24 hours after the United States and Iran announced a 14-point peace understanding aimed at reducing tensions across the Middle East, including Lebanon. The agreement was presented as a major diplomatic step to halt hostilities and stabilize conflict zones.

Deal Faces Early Crisis Amid Continued Violence

The latest escalation has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the newly announced peace framework. Analysts say continued fighting in Lebanon could weaken the agreement’s credibility and derail early attempts at de-escalation.
