100 protest centres across India, Kisan March to Delhi; SKM says agitation will continue until all seven key demands are accepted
New Delhi, August 3: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced a fresh nationwide phase of farmers’ mobilisation, declaring that multi-day protests, Kisan Marches and mass actions will begin across India from November 26, 2026, including in New Delhi and nearly 100 locations nationwide. Addressing a press conference at the Press Club of India on Monday, SKM leaders said the agitation would continue until the Centre accepted the platform’s seven principal demands, including withdrawal of the proposed India-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA), a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), comprehensive farm loan waivers, repeal of the four Labour Codes and withdrawal of proposed legislation relating to electricity, seeds and food security.
The announcement follows the All India Convention of SKM, attended by nearly 1,200 delegates on July 28, and the National Convention of Workers and Farmers held on July 29, which was attended by around 5,000 representatives from farmers’ organisations and trade unions.
Recalls 2020-21 Farmers’ Movement
SKM said the new agitation draws inspiration from the 385-day farmers’ protest at Delhi’s borders during 2020-21, which eventually led to the repeal of the three farm laws. According to the organisation, the written assurances given by the Union Government on December 9, 2021, including a legal MSP framework and other issues, remain unfulfilled.
India-US Trade Deal in Focus
The farmers’ body alleged that the proposed India-US Free Trade Agreement, along with other FTAs, would adversely affect Indian agriculture by allowing cheaper imports, weakening domestic farm incomes, altering cropping patterns and impacting small and medium enterprises. SKM also criticised what it described as increasing privatisation in food storage, alleging that the concentration of FCI silo contracts among private players could affect India’s food security system.
Seven Principal Demands
The convention adopted seven major demands:
- No India-US Free Trade Agreement and repeal of existing FTAs.
- Legal guarantee for MSP based on the Swaminathan formula (C2+50%) with assured procurement.
- Comprehensive farm loan waiver and compensation to families of farmers who died by suicide.
- Repeal of the four Labour Codes and a minimum monthly wage of ₹31,000.
- Restoration of MGNREGA with 200 days of employment and ₹700 daily wages.
- Withdrawal of the Electricity Privatisation Bill, Seed Bill and proposed amendments to the National Food Security Act.
- Protection of land rights and opposition to compulsory land acquisition and corporate land pooling.
Nationwide Action Plan Announced
SKM also unveiled a six-point programme leading up to the November mobilisation.
Among the major programmes are:
- August 10: Nationwide protests to mark the anniversary of the Quit India Movement through demonstrations including Jail Bharo, Rail Roko and Road Roko programmes.
- August 17: Submission of the charter of demands to the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, MPs and MLAs.
- State-wide tractor rallies, padayatras, vehicle yatras, mahapanchayats and public meetings over the next two months.
- October 3: Village-level Mahapanchayats across the country on Lakhimpur Kheri Martyrs’ Day.
- November 26: Kisan Marches and multi-day mass protests in around 100 locations, including the national capital.
SKM said the form, locations and detailed schedule of the November agitation would be announced separately in the coming weeks.
