US President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States and Iran have reached the basic framework of a new agreement aimed at resolving Tehran’s nuclear programme and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route. Trump said the understanding led Washington to halt planned military action against Iran, describing it as a major diplomatic breakthrough.
The announcement marks what could become a significant shift in relations after months of heightened tensions between the two countries.
Trump Says Deal Addresses Nuclear Programme and Oil Transit
According to Trump, the proposed framework requires Iran to eliminate what he described as the country’s nuclear threat while ensuring the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a substantial share of the world’s crude oil exports passes.
