Ten players from Khelo India Wushu Centre Handwara participated in the UT Championship

Srinagar: The 16th UT Wushu Championship concluded successfully at Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu. The championship was held between March 28 to March 31st. The event was one to watch. Around 1,700 players from across Jammu and Kashmir participated in this championship.

Principal Secretary, Youth Service & Sports department Alok Kumar declared open the 16th UT Wushu Championship, while Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Raghav Langer (IAS) was the chief guest at the closing ceremony where they distributed medals to the players and presented memento of appreciation to the best Sports persons.

They also applauded the performance of Coach Aijaz Hassan for the excellent work in sports and for the development & wellbeing of players.

Medal wise winners were as follows:

Gold medallist – Mehreen Banday, Gayas Riyaz 

Silver medallist – Pakeeza Qureshi, Humaira Shafi Bhat 

Bronze medallist – Khursheed Ahmed Wani, Asif Farooq

Four players lost the medal fight by a close margin of points but the performance was good. These included – Sahil Sofi, Azhar Hussain, Hammad Lone and Shafat Ahmed Bhat

Thanks to Wushu Association of J&K, J&K sports Council, Kuldeep Handoo (CEO & Chief Coach of India), Nuzhat Gull (Secretary Sports Council), Maqsood Rather (Secretary District Wushu Association Srinagar), Manager Baramulla, Incharge Handwara Khazir Muhammad, Rameez Ahmad and Irfan Wani. It has only been just 2-3 months that the academy has started and the credit of the success goes to all the coaching staff.
