Srinagar: As part of the ongoing Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations by Indian Army’s Thunderbolt brigade, a patriotic and cultural event was organised at Government Girls Secondary School, Drugmullah on December 7. The aim of the celebrations was to highlight India’s victory over Pakistan in December 1971 resulting in the liberation of Bangladesh.
Students from Government Girls Secondary School, Drugmullah participated in the patriotic and cultural event with full zeal and zest. The celebrations started with prayer to the almighty followed by a welcome song. Four girls from the school narrated major battles which took place during the Indo- Pak War of 1971 and how our brave soldiers won the war for India.
The event also witnessed stellar dance performances by the school students on various songs. The atmosphere was filled with patriotism on the melodious song “Teri Mitti” sung by Suriya Tabasum.
Lt Osheen Guleria, a lady officer from Indian Army gave a talk on “Avenues for Women in Armed Forces” which was appreciated by the girl students and motivated them to work hard in their life.
The event was graced by presence of 1971 Indo-Pak war veteran Lance Naik Ghulam Rasool Ganie of 9 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry who belongs to Drugmullah village and had fought valiantly in Shingo Valley, Kargil during the 1971 war. He shared his experiences about the war and was felicitated by the Indian Army.
A total of 30 students from the government school participated in the cultural event, who were awarded with participation gifts by the Indian Army. The event was attended by Ali Mohammad Lone, Zonal Education Officer, Headmistress Ruqaya Akthar and more than 120 students, teachers and parents.
The active participation by students of Government Girls Secondary School, Drugmullah in Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations is an indicator of increased active participation of women in Kashmiri/ Indian society and Indian Army’s commitment towards gender equality, the people of Jammu & Kashmir and the country.
Government boys’ higher secondary school, Durgmullah

The aim of the celebrations was to make the young generations of Kashmir aware about India’s victory over Pakistan in December 1971 resulting in liberation of Bangladesh
Students from Government Higher Secondary School, Drugmullah participated in the patriotic and cultural event with full zeal and zest. The celebrations started with prayer to the almighty. Four students from the school narrated major battles which took place during the Indo- Pak War of 1971 and how our brave soldiers won the war for India. Students also performed a group dance on patriotic songs.
Principal of School, Dhar gave a motivating speech in which he highlighted important personalities like Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Maj Gen Ian Cardozo who amputated his own leg during the war.

The event was attended by representatives from the Indian Army, Lance Naik Ghulam Rasool Ganie (Retd), Principal Amidulla Dar, Vice Principal Gulam Mohammad Lone and more than 140 students, teachers and parents.
The active participation by students of Government Higher Secondary School, Drugmulla in Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations is an indicative of positive change and Indian Army’s commitment towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
