Inter village girl’s athletics tournament held at Tirch Nutnoonsa

Srinagar: Sports has the power to fight gender inequality by educating women and girls about the value of teamwork, self-reliance and resilience. In addition, initiative, teamwork, confidence building & leadership are few learning attributes that sports inculcate and as a result directly empower women/ girls.

To enhance leadership qualities amongst girls, Indian Army has always been providing platforms across disciplines and has conducted multiple events, functions & sport competitions to give impetus to their talent and abilities in North Kashmir.

In continuation of these efforts, Kandi Battalion under the aegis of Charkut Garrison organised an inter village girl’s athletics tournament at Government High School, Tarats ground for girls of Kandi, Kigam bowl. Multiple events such as 100 meter and 200-meter sprint, 400-meter relay, long Jump, High Jump, Shot put & Javelin throw were conducted with participation from more than 170 spirited girls to showcase their talent on the field in front of an august gathering of 360 locals.

The event stood out as a strong bond which will inspire more girls & women to participate in sports and adopt it as a career in future.

The event attended by many dignitaries from both civilian & Army including Asifa Begum, BDC Nutnoonsa, Sarpanches & ward members who all appreciated the efforts made by Indian Army for conduct of such big event and hoped that it will go a long way towards strengthening and motivating the youth from remote areas to achieve their dreams.
