New Delhi: Gitanjali Angmo, wife of social activist Sonam Wangchuk, has approached the Supreme Court challenging her husband’s arrest under the National Security Act (NSA) and seeking his immediate release. She stated that she has not been able to contact Wangchuk since his arrest on September 26.

In her habeas corpus petition, Angmo described the arrest as illegal and a violation of procedural norms under the NSA. She has questioned the legality of the detention and said she is yet to receive a copy of the official detention order, calling it a “clear breach of procedure.”

“I am yet to get a copy of his detention order. This is a violation of rules. I have had no contact with my husband since his detention,” Angmo said.

Wangchuk has been lodged in Jodhpur jail since his arrest, which followed violent clashes during a Ladakh protest on September 24. The protests, demanding statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, left four people dead and several injured.

Authorities have alleged that Wangchuk played a role in inciting the protesters and maintained alleged links with a Pakistan PIO (intelligence officer).
