Panic reportedly broke out among passengers travelling on an air-conditioned local train from Panvel towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) after the train continued moving without stopping at stations where commuters expected it to halt.
A video circulating on social media appears to show passengers inside the coach looking confused and anxious as the train remains in motion. The footage has since triggered questions about what exactly happened and why commuters were reportedly unaware of the train’s movement.
Passengers Gather Near Emergency Intercom
The video, shared by Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangha on X, shows around eight to 10 passengers inside the coach, including a child.
At one point, several commuters can be seen moving towards the emergency intercom. The passengers appear to be attempting to contact railway staff or the motorman to find out why the train was continuing without making the expected station stops.
The situation reportedly left commuters frightened, particularly because they were unsure whether the train was operating normally.
Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangha Seeks Railway Action
Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangha called for an immediate inquiry into the incident and tagged several railway and government authorities in its social media post.
“Panvel to CSMT train not stopping on any station, commuters panicked,” the passenger organisation said while sharing the video.
The group also raised concerns over passenger safety and questioned what safeguards are in place to control a train if commuters become concerned about its movement.
The post tagged the Central Railway’s Mumbai division, its General Manager, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Prime Minister’s Office.
RailwaySeva Escalates Complaint
RailwaySeva, the official railway passenger-support account on X, responded to the viral post.
The account said the matter had been forwarded to the concerned official for necessary action and tagged the Divisional Railway Manager of the Mumbai division.
The response indicates that railway authorities have taken note of the complaint, although a detailed explanation of the incident was not immediately available.
Was the Train Heading to a Car Shed?
Amid the online discussion, another social media user claimed that the train was actually travelling towards a car shed and that an announcement had allegedly been made to inform passengers about its movement.
The user further claimed that some commuters had boarded the train despite the announcement.
However, this version of events has not been independently confirmed. The viral video by itself does not establish whether the train was operating as a regular passenger service, running under a different operational instruction or travelling towards a maintenance facility.

The incident has sparked concern among Mumbai commuters, particularly because passengers inside the train reportedly became anxious after noticing that expected station stops were not taking place.
