Mumbai: In a recent development surrounding the death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away last month in Singapore, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has clarified that their preliminary investigation has found no evidence of foul play.

An official statement from the SPF read, “The Singapore Police Force is aware of speculation and false information circulating online regarding the circumstances of Mr Zubeen Garg’s death. The case is currently being investigated by the SPF, in accordance with Singapore’s Coroners Act 2010. Based on preliminary investigations, the SPF does not suspect foul play.”

The statement also mentioned that the investigation may continue for another three months, after which the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner in Singapore. “The SPF is committed to conducting a thorough and professional investigation into the case, and this takes time. We seek the patience and understanding of the parties involved. Meanwhile, we urge the public not to speculate and spread unverified information,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, Zubeen Garg’s fans have taken to social media, particularly targeting Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s Facebook page with comments demanding justice under the hashtag #JusticeForZubeenGarg. Media reports from The Assam Tribune and The Sentinel note that Wong’s Facebook account was temporarily deactivated due to the flood of comments.

Back in Assam, authorities have arrested five individuals in connection with the ongoing investigation. The suspects include Northeast Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma, police officer and cousin Sandipan Garg, and his two personal security personnel, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya.

All five were placed under 14-day judicial custody on Wednesday. Outside the Baksa District Jail, where the accused were brought, Zubeen’s fans gathered in protest, reportedly throwing stones and sandals at the police convoy.
