Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the deadly attack at a Moscow concert hall on Saturday, labeling it a ‘barbaric terrorist act’ that claimed the lives of 143 innocent individuals. In a televised address to the nation, Putin declared March 24 as a day of national mourning in honor of the victims.
Expressing determination to bring the perpetrators to justice, Putin vowed severe retribution for those responsible for the heinous act. “All four perpetrators of the terrorist attack who shot and killed people have been detained…Terrorists, murderers, non-humans will face the unenviable fate of retribution and oblivion,” he declared, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
Putin hinted at a potential link to Ukraine, suggesting that the attackers had attempted to flee towards the Ukrainian border. He stated that preliminary information indicated preparations on the Ukrainian side to facilitate the attackers’ crossing from Russia. However, Ukraine swiftly denied any involvement, with a spokesperson for Kyiv’s military spy agency dismissing the allegations as “another lie from the Russian special services.”
Andriy Yusov, representing Ukraine’s defence Ministry’s main directorate of intelligence, emphasized that Ukraine had no role in the terrorist attack. He refuted the claims, asserting that Ukraine was focused on defending its sovereignty from Russian invaders and targeting military objectives, not civilians.
As investigations continue into the devastating attack, Putin’s remarks underscored the severity of the situation and the need for swift action to address terrorism threats within and beyond Russia’s borders.
