The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government on Saturday, accusing it of engaging in systematic intimidation to hinder the free movement of party leaders in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections. Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj leveled serious allegations against the Delhi Police, claiming that they were obstructing AAP leaders from accessing even their official residences.
“It is clear that bullying is going on. There is no law and order,” Bharadwaj asserted during a press conference, highlighting the severity of the situation. “You have stopped us from going to the party office. How will the AAP contest the elections? Under which law does the police have the right to control us?”
The AAP minister further revealed that the party had sought intervention from the Election Commission of India to address the issue. “We have asked for time from the Election Commission. We would want the EC to take action on this matter as a neutral agency,” he emphasized.
In a social media post, Atishi, another prominent figure within AAP, questioned the “sealing” of the party office, arguing that it contradicts the principle of a “level playing field” in elections as promised by the Constitution. “How can access to a national party’s office be stopped during the Lok Sabha election? This goes against the ‘level playing field’ promised in the Indian Constitution. We are seeking time with the Election Commission (EC) to complain against this,” Atishi asserted in her post.
Atishi also shared a video on social media, depicting a heated exchange between AAP leaders and a Delhi Police officer. In the video, Atishi vehemently challenges the officer’s actions, while some AAP leaders stage a protest by lying down on the road after being obstructed by the police.
The video captures moments of intense confrontation, with AAP leaders expressing their frustration over the alleged harassment. The incident escalates as one AAP leader urges the police to shoot them, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Reacting to the incident, the AAP condemned what they termed as “cowardly” actions by the Modi government. “Cowardly Modi is so scared that he no longer wants to let AAP contest elections. Police are also stopping AAP minister Atishi at various places,” the party declared in a statement.
“Mr. Modi, do one thing, shoot all AAP leaders and workers, your work will become easy. Otherwise, if AAP leaders and workers remain alive, they will not let you dictate comfortably,” the party concluded, reflecting the escalating tensions between the AAP and the ruling government.
