Pune: In a shocking case that has sent shockwaves across Maharashtra, 37-year-old Dattatray Ramdas Gade lured a 26-year-old woman into an empty ‘Shiv Shahi’ bus at Pune’s Swargate depot before sexually assaulting her, police told the court on Friday.
The accused, who already has half a dozen criminal cases against him in Pune and Ahilyanagar districts, was captured on CCTV footage at the bus terminus on the day of the incident. Five of the cases against him involve crimes against women.
Following an intense manhunt involving drones and sniffer dogs, police nabbed Gade from a paddy field in Pune’s Shirur tehsil around midnight on Thursday. A local court has remanded him to police custody until March 12, as investigators continue to probe his criminal history and recover data from his mobile phone, which could provide more crucial evidence.
