Chamoli, Uttarakhand: Rescue operations in the high-altitude Mana village continue at full throttle as search teams managed to pull out 14 more trapped labourers from the devastating avalanche site. However, eight workers remain buried under the thick snow, with time running out.

The avalanche struck a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp in Chamoli district on Friday morning, trapping 55 workers under layers of ice and debris. By Friday night, 33 labourers were rescued, and the search continued relentlessly despite extreme weather conditions.

Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman confirmed that earlier reports had miscounted the total number of trapped workers, as two were on leave when the avalanche struck. A revised list by the State Disaster Management Authority reveals that the trapped workers hail from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir.

“The situation is extremely challenging due to the seven feet of snow at the site, but over 65 personnel are tirelessly engaged in the rescue efforts,” Suman stated.
