Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has voiced her shock and disappointment over India’s decision to abstain from the United Nations voting for a ceasefire in Gaza. She criticized the Central government, emphasizing that the act of refusing to take a stand and remaining silent while the rights and laws of humanity are violated in Palestine contradicts the principles that India has historically upheld.
In a social media post, Priyanka Gandhi quoted Mahatma Gandhi, saying, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” She expressed her shock and shame that India abstained from voting for a ceasefire in Gaza, a decision she believes is contrary to the nation’s values.
Priyanka Gandhi reminded that India was founded on the principles of non-violence and truth, which were embodied by the sacrifices of freedom fighters and form the basis of the Indian Constitution. She stressed that these principles represent the moral courage of India as a member of the international community.
She further noted that refusing to take a stand and remaining silent while the rights of humanity are trampled upon, including the denial of essential resources, such as food, water, medical supplies, and communication, contradicts the core values that India has stood for throughout its history as a nation.
