In a decisive move aimed at curbing terrorist activities and dismantling support networks, the police in Baramulla have taken stringent action by attaching a residential house and a vehicle (Swift Car) under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)).
The police action stemmed from ongoing investigations into specific cases. One such case, detailed under FIR No. 104/2023 U/S 7/25 I.A Act, 120-B IPC, 13, 16, 18, 23 UA (P) Act at the Uri Police Station, resulted in the seizure of a Swift Car (registration number CH01AD-9588). This vehicle was found to have been utilized for the transportation of illegal arms and ammunition, serving the interests of terrorist activities. As a consequence of this discovery, DySP SIU Baramulla, acting as the Case Investigating Officer (CIO), invoked powers under Section 25 of the UA(P) Act to attach the vehicle, after obtaining requisite approvals.
In another case under investigation, FIR No. 46/2023 U/S 307 IPC, 7/27 Arms Act, and Sections 16, 18, 19, 20, and 38 of UA (P) Act at the Kreeri Police Station, a residential house owned by Farooq Ahmad Bhat, son of Late Ghulam Mohammad, located at Wanigam Payeen, was identified as a location used for harboring terrorists. In response, Dr. Khalid Ashraf- JKPS, DySP Ops Kreeri, acting as the Investigating Officer (IO), utilized powers under Section 25 of the UA(P) Act to attach the said house, after requisite approvals were secured from the competent authority.
These decisive actions underline the resolve of law enforcement agencies to crack down on any form of support or facilitation provided to terrorists. By invoking relevant sections of the UA(P) Act, the police have moved swiftly to seize properties identified as having direct or indirect links to terrorist activities. Such measures serve to disrupt the infrastructure and resources that aid and abet unlawful and violent actions, reaffirming the commitment to ensure peace and security within the region.
This resolute stance by the authorities sends a strong message against any involvement or association with terrorist networks. It also emphasizes the importance of using legal mechanisms to target and neutralize elements that contribute to the perpetuation of terrorism, ensuring that all resources associated with such activities are curtailed and addressed within the purview of the law.
