‘Message of Hope’: Omar Abdullah Opens Asia’s Largest Tulip Garden in Srinagar

The tourism season in Srinagar officially began on Monday as Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, inaugurated the famous Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, known as the largest tulip garden in Asia. The picturesque garden, located on the foothills overlooking the iconic Dal Lake, has opened to the public with thousands of vibrant tulips in full bloom.

The inauguration ceremony marked the beginning of the much-awaited Kashmir Tulip Festival, which attracts visitors from across India and around the world every year.

Chief Minister Tours Garden and Meets Staff

During the event, Omar Abdullah toured the massive terraced garden along with senior officials and horticulture experts. The Chief Minister closely observed the colourful display of tulips spread across the landscaped slopes and interacted with gardeners and staff who spent months preparing the garden for the annual floral showcase.

Officials briefed him about the arrangements and the scale of this year’s plantation, which has turned the garden into one of the most spectacular spring attractions in the region.

‘Tulips Reflect Kashmir’s Strength and Hope’

Addressing the gathering, Omar Abdullah described the blooming tulips as a symbol of resilience and optimism for the valley.

He said the garden represents not only Kashmir’s natural beauty but also the spirit of its people.

According to the Chief Minister, the tulip bloom sends a powerful message of peace, prosperity, and hope, inviting tourists to experience the charm of Kashmir during the spring season.

Tourism Key to Kashmir’s Economy

Highlighting the importance of tourism, Abdullah said the government is focused on strengthening the sector as it plays a crucial role in the region’s economy.

He noted that the administration has made extensive preparations for the upcoming tourist season and is ready to welcome visitors from across the country and abroad.

Tourism authorities expect the tulip festival to significantly boost travel activity in the valley over the coming weeks.

Over 1.5 Lakh Tulip Bulbs Planted

Officials revealed that more than 1.5 lakh tulip bulbs from over 70 varieties have been planted in the garden this year.

To enhance the visual experience, several other spring flowers such as hyacinths and daffodils have also been added to the floral display.

Spread across large terraced slopes with a panoramic view of Dal Lake, the garden has become one of the most visited tourist attractions in Kashmir during the spring months.

With the garden now open to the public, tourism officials expect a massive surge in tourist arrivals, as thousands of visitors are likely to flock to Srinagar to witness the colourful tulip bloom.
