Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship welfare scheme, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), has been extended till December 2028, ensuring continued support for millions of underprivileged families across India. The scheme, which provides free food grains to Antyoday families and priority households, has been a lifeline since its launch five years ago.
Under the leadership of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state has effectively implemented PMGKAY, distributing 21.91 lakh metric tonnes of food grains worth ₹7,529 crore in 2024 alone, benefitting 3.72 crore individuals from 76.6 lakh families.
Originally launched to ease the hardships of poor families during the COVID-19 pandemic, PMGKAY has become a key pillar of the Central Government’s commitment to food security and poverty alleviation. Under the scheme, Antyoday families receive 35 kg of food grains per month, while priority households get 5 kg per person per month—ensuring that no family goes hungry.
