Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party is witnessing a phase of political transition following the tragic death of its senior leader Ajit Pawar, with strong indications that his son Parth Pawar is preparing to step into national politics through the Rajya Sabha.
Within the party, discussions are underway on the timing and manner of Parth Pawar’s entry into Parliament. The focus is on ensuring a full-term tenure in the Upper House, rather than a shorter remaining term, as the party looks to provide long-term continuity in leadership and representation at the national level.
Political activity intensified after Parth Pawar and his brother Jay Pawar held an extended meeting with NCP founder Sharad Pawar in Baramati. While no official details of the discussion were made public, the meeting has added momentum to conversations around the party’s future direction, including leadership restructuring and the possibility of closer coordination between different NCP groups.
Amid these developments, questions have also emerged about the future leadership of the party. The post of national president has remained vacant since Ajit Pawar’s passing in a plane crash on January 28. While several names have been discussed within political circles, no formal decision has been announced so far.
Senior party leaders have maintained that any major organisational decision will be taken only after consultations within the party and once the mourning period concludes. The family of the late leader has also consciously stayed away from political deliberations during this period, stating that decisions will be guided by Ajit Pawar’s vision and long-term goals for the party.
