Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said that naxalism has been nearly wiped out from the state, following a major security operation in which seven naxals were killed. He said the remaining extremists are now left with only two choices — surrender before the law or face strict action by security forces.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said Maharashtra has made steady and determined progress in tackling left-wing extremism over the past few years. He credited coordinated action by the police, intelligence agencies, and special anti-naxal units for weakening naxal networks across affected regions.
Referring to the recent encounter, Fadnavis said the seven naxals who were killed belonged to a specific group that had been active in remote forest areas. He said such operations are part of a larger strategy aimed at ensuring long-term peace and development in regions that were once influenced by extremist violence.
The Chief Minister added that the state government has maintained a clear policy against violence while also keeping doors open for surrender and rehabilitation. “Those who are left will eventually surrender or be neutralised,” he said, indicating that the government will continue its firm approach until the threat is fully eliminated.
