Srinagar: Security agencies on Wednesday, April 23, released sketches of the suspects involved in the horrific terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people, most of them tourists. The release of the sketches comes amid an intense and ongoing manhunt to track down the perpetrators behind what is being described as one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in the region in recent years.

The brutal strike took place at Baisaran meadow, a scenic tourist destination near Pahalgam, popularly referred to as ‘mini Switzerland’. The area was bustling with tourists when the assailants struck, leaving devastation and panic in their wake.

According to officials, the sketches of the suspects were prepared with the help of survivors who managed to escape the carnage. Their accounts have been crucial in assisting the investigation teams to identify the attackers.

The gravity of the situation triggered swift and high-profile responses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a visit to Saudi Arabia, cut short his trip and returned to New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah immediately flew to Kashmir on Tuesday to oversee the situation and review security arrangements.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attackers may have infiltrated from Kishtwar in the Jammu region and made their way to Baisaran via Kokernag in South Kashmir. Authorities believe this route might have been used to avoid detection and mount the surprise attack on civilians.
