Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s wife, Amruta Fadnavis, has spoken about the ongoing Maratha reservation issue, calling it a “very sensitive” matter and expressing hope that the state government will find a solution.
Speaking to reporters in Ahilyanagar on Saturday, Amruta said the government is committed to resolving the issue and suggested that all sides should wait for a solution rather than adding to the debate.
“I think the State Government is fully committed to finding a solution to this issue. So, rather than saying anything different, I hope that they will find a solution together in the coming days,” she said.
Amruta Fadnavis Invited Manoj Jarange Patil Home
Her comments came shortly after she invited Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil to her home for a meal.
Amruta has described Jarange as her brother, adding a personal dimension to the ongoing political and social debate over the reservation demand.
Jarange, however, said he would accept the invitation at a later time because his agitation is currently underway.
Jarange Says He Will Visit on Bhaubeej
Responding to the invitation, Jarange said he would visit Amruta for a meal on Bhaubeej.
“Tai has said it, so I will go for the meal. But when a brother is on the field and fighting for a cause, a sister should not invite him for a meal. One should not look here and there during a hunt. My sister should think about this carefully. I will come for a meal on Bhaubeej. She should invite us on Bhaubeej, and I will take a saree and blouse for her,” Jarange said.
His response came as his agitation over the reservation issue continued.
Jarange Continues Hunger Strike in Jalna
Jarange has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Antarwali Sarati in Jalna district since August 29.
His demands include action on the Maratha reservation issue, implementation of the Hyderabad and Satara Gazette records and the issuance of Kunbi caste certificates to eligible members of the Maratha community.
The agitation has kept pressure on the Maharashtra government to address the demands.
Mumbai March Planned for September 20
Jarange has also announced plans for a march towards Mumbai.
While addressing supporters at Antarwali Sarati on Saturday, he asked them to begin preparations for the proposed march.
According to his plan, the march will move through Patoda, Shrigonda, Ahilyanagar, Hadapsar, Pune and Khopoli before reaching Mumbai on September 20.
The planned Mumbai march could further increase pressure on the state government as efforts continue to find a solution to the Maratha reservation demand.
