New Delhi: Condemnations and condolences poured in from across the globe on Wednesday, April 23, following the deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 people—mostly tourists—dead. The brutal assault at the scenic Baisaran meadow, often dubbed ‘mini Switzerland’, has sparked strong international reactions, including from Pakistan, China, and the United States.

In its official response, Pakistan’s Foreign Office expressed grief over the loss of civilian lives. Responding to media queries, FO spokesperson Shafqat Khan said in a statement: “We are concerned at the loss of tourists’ lives in an attack in Anantnag district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. We extend our condolences to the near ones of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” as quoted by Dawn.

China also strongly denounced the attack. Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong posted on X, stating: “Shocked by the attack in Pahalgam and condemn. Deep condolences for the victims and sincere sympathies to the injured and the bereaved families. Oppose terrorism of all forms.”

Echoing the ambassador’s sentiments, China’s foreign ministry offered heartfelt condolences. “We mourn the victims and extend our sincere sympathies to the families of the victims and the injured,” foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun was quoted as saying by AFP, adding that China “strongly condemns this attack.”

The United States also reacted with sorrow and pledged support to India. US President Donald Trump conveyed his sympathies and “full support” following the horrific incident.

The attack, which unfolded on Tuesday at one of Kashmir’s most frequented tourist spots, triggered a swift response from India’s top leadership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to New Delhi, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Kashmir to review the situation firsthand.
