Bhiwandi: A 20-year-old man from Thane was booked by Kapurbawadi police station for carrying liquor and tobacco inside the COVID hospital at Thane, informed a civic officer of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).
The accused has been identified as Naresh Panchal (20), (named changed) resides at Thane. The incident took place at Global hub COVID hospital in Thane on Monday evening, stated the TMC civic official.

Anil Deshmukh, Senior Police Inspector, Kapurbawadi police station while speaking to thenews21 said “We were informed through the administration of COVID hospital. Our police personnel rushed to spot and a case was booked against him under the various sections of The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003. He was released after recovering a fine from him”.
As per information of the civic officials on October 5, Panchal was carrying a liquor bottle and tobacco into the COVID hospital which is prohibited. Security officer Machindra Thorave, who was checking him, found a liquor bottle and tobacco from his possession. Following which Thorave alerted his senior about it. They in turn alerted local police.
Sandeep Malvi, PRO TMC said, “The accused, a relative, was admitted in the hospital. He had come here to given him something which contained liquor bottle and tobacco”.
