Maharashtra sees sharp drop in daily COVID-19 cases, here’s why

@the_news_21

Number of new cases in Maharashtra and Mumbai are dropping day by day. Experts says, number of people infected from one patient is also decreasing day by day. On the other hand, the state is increasing vaccination.

Reproduction number or generally known as R number is one of the tools to measure spread of disease. If the R value is higher than one, then the number of cases keeps increasing and if the R number is lower then disease will eventually stop spreading. For example R number of 1.5 means 100 patients can infect 150 other persons. University of Michigan’s School of Public health’s researcher Bhramar Mukherjee says, for Maharashtra the value has dropped to 1.1 which is much lower than the country’s R value. In the last month it was around 1.7. Further decline in this value will lower the case load in state. During the last few weeks Maharashtra has imposed several stricter restrictions and banned movements of citizens without essential reasons. Besides this, the state took various measures to identify and treat the suspected patients. It is helping in decreasing case load in Maharashtra.
