Mumbai: In the wake of the resurgence of Covid cases in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said that those who do not want the imposition of lockdown again in the state will continue to wear a mask. Whereas, those who want a lockdown will not wear a mask.

Addressing the people of the state virtually this evening, Chief Minister Thackeray said, he would take a call on imposing lockdown in the next eight days. He said, in the next 8 to 15 days it will be clear whether the second wave of novel coronavirus has hit the state or not. “The second wave of Covid is knocking at our doors. However, it would take another 8 to 15 days to confirm whether the second wave has hit the state or not”, he asserted.

To prepare a health map of the state a state-wide campaign of ‘My family, my responsibility’ was implemented, speaking about the same, Thackeray said, a new campaign will be launched which will be called “I am responsible”. “In I am responsible campaign, a person will have to vow that he or she will wear a mask, use sanitiser and maintain physical distancing”, he said.

He said it is a war against the virus and in this war, a facemask is a shield that will safeguard people from the deadly virus.

Expressing displeasure on people refusing to wear a mask and not using sanitisers, he said, strict action will be taken against the violators. He said, even in banquet halls if people are found violating the Covid guidelines then action will be taken against the owner.

Announcing that processions, morcha and protests will be banned in the state henceforth till further order, Thackeray in a veiled attack slammed opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that political parties can expand their party but not at the cost of spreading the virus.

“My party, our alliance partners and opposition want to expand and increase their party but while doing so we should not increase coronavirus”, he added.

Without naming Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the chief minister said, the mere felicitation of covid warriors will not serve the purpose. “Felicitating the Covid warriors is of utmost importance but one should also take note that these Covid warriors do not face more burden. If one cannot be a Covid warrior it is fine but that person should not become a Covid ambassador”, he said.

It is to be noted that Koshyari had vehemently criticized the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over the closure of temples before the religious places in the state were reopened on the occasion of Diwali Padwa last year.
